Sunday at ZFF: From the Winner of the Silver Lion to Sofia Coppola
The first official festival day, Sunday, 12 November, Europa Cinema is hosting the screening of Ali’s Wedding at 7pm, by Australian director Jeffrey Walker, who humorously portrays the problems of the second generation of Iraqi migrants and their clash with the Muslim tradition. Based on the real-life experiences of the screenwriter and lead actor Osamah Sami, this romantic comedy crushes stereotypes and the actor will stay after the screening for a Q&A with the audience.
At 9.30pm Xavier Legrand is presenting his Silver Lion-winning film Custody at Europa Cinema. Legrand’s directing debut, a family drama, is as exciting as a thriller and starring the young but outstanding actors Thomas Gioria and Denis Monechet, known for his role in Inglorious Basterds. A Q&A with the director follows after the screening.
At Tuškanac Cinema, Sunday will be a day for great titles from the Together Again section. At 5pm, Sofia Coppola’s new film The Beguiled, at 7.30pm Love Me Not by the controversial Greek director Alexandros Avranas, and at 10pm the Norwegian Oscar candidate Thelma by Joachim Trier.
