Who is that unusual young man at the end of the bus packed with rowdy football fans on the way to the stadium? A careful look reveals it is not a young man, but in fact a girl dressed as a man – one of the many female football lovers in Iran. At the stadium entrance, she is stopped and led into an area with several other women dressed as men, waiting to be taken away by the “moral police” at the end of the match. But before this happens, they are tortured! They can hear the audience cheering but not see what’s going on in the field. They employ trickery in order to get a glimpse of the match. Jafar Panahi uses comedy to expose the violation of women’s rights in modern Iran. The film is banned in Iran and won the Silver Bear at the 2006 Berlinale.
